Status: planned, not yet available

Native desktop apps and a browser-based web client are both on the beChat roadmap. Neither has shipped. When a desktop build is released, it will be announced on r/beChat and on this page.

In the meantime, you can join the open beta on Android. Because beChat accounts are PIN-based and not tied to a phone number or a single device, you can register today and the same account model will carry over to desktop when it ships.

What will ship on desktop

The cryptographic stack is shared across platforms. When a desktop build ships, beChat desktop will include:

 • Anonymous registration with an 8-character PIN and device fingerprint. The app asks for your email, phone number, or messaging bridge nowhere in the process.
 • A Double Ratchet construction with post-quantum key exchange: ML-KEM-1024, ML-DSA-87.
 • AES-256-GCM-SIV attachment encryption before upload.
 • SQLCipher-encrypted local storage keyed by your PIN.
 • TLS with certificate pinning and HMAC request signing.
 • No analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or third-party data-collection SDKs.

Desktop and web clients will connect to the same zero-knowledge server as the Android client. The server stores only encrypted blobs, your PIN, your device fingerprint, and your public keys. It cannot read message content on any platform.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a beChat desktop app?

Not yet. Native desktop applications are on the beChat roadmap but have not shipped. The open beta is currently Android-only. There is no Windows, macOS, or Linux desktop build available for download at this time.

Is there a beChat web client?

No. A browser-based web client is also on the roadmap and has not shipped. beChat currently has only the Android beta client, with no web app and no desktop app.

Will beChat desktop have the same encryption as Android?

Yes. The cryptographic stack is shared across platforms: a Double Ratchet construction with post-quantum key exchange (ML-KEM-1024, ML-DSA-87), AES-256-GCM-SIV attachments, SQLCipher local storage, and anonymous PIN-based registration. The desktop build will use the same zero-knowledge server and the same no-tracking policy as Android.

Will beChat desktop require a phone number?

No. The anonymous account model is platform-independent. beChat desktop will register with an auto-generated 8-character PIN and a device fingerprint, just like the Android client. No email, phone number, or messaging bridge from a phone is required.

How do I stay informed about the desktop release?

Join r/beChat or email privacy@bechat.world. Desktop and web client releases will be announced through those channels and on bechat.world when they ship. You can also join the beta on Android today and switch to desktop later without losing your account.
